Pre-requisites for Attending an AERIE CIRT K9 Testing Event
Core Pre-requisites for all AERIE CIRT K9 Certification Exams:
- Canine must be a minimum of 12 months of age and must be spayed/neutered.
- Must have completed NFPA 472/CFR120 Part Q – Hazardous Materials – Awareness Level Course (or AERIE approved equivalent).
- Must have completed a Bloodborne Pathogens training course that meets or exceeds 29CFR
- Must submit documentation of completion of FEMA IS-100 & 200. (Level 300/400 recommended).
- Must have a current (nationally) approved Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification and a current American Red Cross or equivalent Basic First Aid Course, or higher medical training.
- Must be an employee of a Federal, State, County or Local 1st Responder Agency (LE, Fire, EMS, OEM, Federal Military). ID must be presented at testing site.
Exception: Current 1st Responder Agency Contracted Personnel with a 1st Responder Background (Retired 1st Responder) who responds to Critical Incidents, Debriefs, or provides PEER Support under their contract.
- Must have completed an Agency sponsored/approved Peer Support Training Course (24-40 hours) within one year of AERIE examination process.
- Must submit written agency approval (on letterhead), by Director/Sheriff/Chief or their Designee to test.
- Must submit verification canine partner is Agency Owned or Agency Approved.
- The handler (candidate) must stipulate, in writing, the canine partner does not have any history or current behavioral issues such as: Aggression, Fear, Cowering, Avoiding Contact/Interaction, Extreme Environmental Insecurities, Separation Anxiety, Uncontrollable High Prey Drive.
- Proof of passing the AERIE (online) written CIRT K9 Knowledge Examination prior to arriving for field testing.
- Must submit results of an Agency Background Check, conducted within a year of AERIE examination process.
