Instructor Development
Instructor Development Protocols
Candidates applying to be AERIE Instructors must have:
- Completed a written Instructor Candidate Application
- Submitted any required (annual) Membership Fees
- Submitted a Resume indicating 5 years of verifiable operational experience appropriate to the course to be taught.
- Completed an (annual) background check with no felonies or misdemeanors (excluding traffic offenses)
- Have successfully completed the course to be instructed with a written Final Exam score of 85% or higher
- Completed any available/required certification at the level of the course to be instructed
- Proof of one of the following:
- 3 years (full) Instructor experience accredited by a legitimate Government Agency or approved National Training Organization (e.g. POST, CLEET, TCOLE, a Fire Service Academy, EMS programs, FEMA, PADI.)
- Completion (minimally) of a 40 hour adult education methodology course
- Certification from an accredited vocational school, college, or university as a teacher
- Federal, State, Territory or Provincial Teaching certificate
- Successful participation in an Instructor Workshop specific to the course to be instructed (taught by an AERIE Instructor Trainer)
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship in presenting the class to be instructed
- Requirement to teach the applicable course at least once every two years, or re-attend an Instructor Workshop
- Upon completion of all the above requirements (including apprenticeship), the candidate will be designated as an Instructor (and can present the course as the “Chief or “Lead”).
Additionally, to be nominated as a candidate for Course Director (includes Instructor Trainer), besides meeting all the above requirements, the Instructor must have three years of experience teaching the applicable course with a minimum of 5 courses presented as an approved Instructor and completion of a Course Director Workshop.
